The Traffic and Patrols Directorate ofthe Abu Dhabi Police, represented by the Al Ain Traffic and Patrol Department, seized 434 vehicles last October. Vehicles were seized for different reasons according to traffic laws and regulations including the revocation of driving licenses if the motorist reached the maximum allowed traffic violation points (24 points) or the withdrawal of the motorist’s license following a traffic violation.
Major Matar Abdullah Al Muhairi, Director of the Traffic Violations and Precedence Branch, said that traffic points reach its maximum allowed levels due to traffic violations such as: dangerous overtaking by truck drivers, drivers committing dangerous manoeuvers and participating in races along roads, and drivers who fail to stop after causing an accident that resulted in injuries.
“Seizing the vehicle is considered to be an administrative punishment to deter these vehicles from causing further harm for a certain period of time. This procedure is carried out on a cumulative system; the vehicle is seized for acertain periodof time initially, and further offenses will result in a prolonged seizure reaching a potential of approximately one month,” he said.
Al Muhairicalled on motorists to obey traffic laws, keep within speed limits, and adhere to othertraffic-regulating laws. He alsowished safety for all motorists.
The Abu Dhabi Traffic and Patrols Directorate recently distributed educational booklets and brochures on traffic laws and regulations in Abu Dhabi, Al Ain, and the Western Region.
