Abu Dhabi Police presented 3 research papers at the International Conference of Racing Analysts and Veterinarians (ICRAV), recently held in Philadelphia, in the United States, and lasted 6 days.
Lieutenant Colonel Expert Dr. Nawal Al Kathiri, Head of the Chemical Analysis Division at the Abu Dhabi Police Forensic Evidence Department and Head of the delegation, explained that the three researches were conducted at the Forensic Evidence Department’s laboratories. The first research paper tackled the effects of drugs injected to camels and the time required for the body to eliminate them. For his part, Dr. Expert Ibrahim Wasfi presented two research papers related to camel racing.
Lt. Colonel Al Kathiri indicated that the researches were conducted on a number of camels used in camel racing, which were injected with some commonly used drugs; usually prescribed for horses and cows. She noted that the research yielded important outcomes compared with conducted previously on horses and cows. The research was able to determine the time needed for the camels’ bodies to eliminate these drugs (and the appropriate dose for treatment). These results were discussed with experts and researchers at the conference.
“The conference was attended by an elite group of international experts, as well as the Anti-Doping Association Laboratory in camel racing representing the Criminal Evidence Department,” she added.
Concluding, Lt. Colonel Al Kathiri emphasized that the conference provided a great opportunity to review the latest technologies; the methods used in veterinary analysis, as well as the methods of solving problems arising from the fight against doping. “The conference contributes to strengthen relations with experts from all over the world, in this area of specialization”, she said.
