Quick response teams at the Emergency and General Safety Department in Abu Dhabi Police recused two cleaners from falling from the 23rd floor of an under-construction building in Al Khaldiyah area opposite to Choithrams Supermarket. The two workers were trapped in the scaffold while cleaning the building from the outside when the scaffold swung violently due to strong winds during the recent spell of bad weather witnessed in the country.
Lt. Colonel Muhammed Ibrahim Al Amri, Director of Emergency and General Safety Department said that the department received information from the operations room that two cleaners were trapped in a scaffold on the 23rd floor of an under-construction building in the Al Khaldiyah area, noting that quick response teams accompanied with ambulance teams immediately rushed to the location, and evacuated the nearby area to ensure the safety of other workers and people on the street. They then broke the window at the floor level were the workers were trapped due to the difficulty of lowering the scaffold in the strong wind. He said that the two workers were pulled out of the scaffold and transported to Khalifa Hospital where they underwent medical tests ensuring their good health.
Captain Abdullah Al Tamimi, Head of Customer Care and Public Relations Division at the Civil Defense General Headquarters, called on maintenance and construction companies to perform regular maintenance to scaffolds to ensure that the scaffold wires are in good condition at all times as they are regularly exposed to extreme weather conditions such as heat, wind, and humidity. He stressed the importance of training workers and providing safety tools to avoid risks associated with such incidents.
