A total of 22 officers and non commissioned officers from the Emergency and Public Safety Department will participate in a 9 weeks course on skills of dealing with hazardous materials, which will kick off today, Monday, at the Fire Services College in Moreton-in-Marsh in Britain.
Lt. Colonel Mohammed Ibrahim Al Ameri, Deputy Director of Emergency and Public Safety Department, stressed during his meeting with the delegates, the police leadership’s keenness to develop the skills of the national cadre in the field of prevention and dealing with hazardous materials as per the best international practices, and to develop human resources at the department to enable them to respond to any chemical, biological, nuclear or radioactive accidents.
For his part, Major Omar Al Zahiri, Head of Training Department at the Emergency and Public Safety Department, said: “The course includes training on fire chemistry, chemical specifications of explosives and flammable materials, procedures to protect the environment from hazardous materials leaking from industrial areas, dealing with radioactive materials to minimize their impact on both the environment and humans in case of accidents. The course also includes training on rescue of injured people in dangerous chemical and radioactive accidents.”
Al Zahiri added that the purpose of the course, organized in collaboration with the Human Resource General Department of Abu Dhabi Police, is to train members on ways to deal with chemical and hazardous materials, as well as the impacts of the wrong storage of these materials and other relevant training programs.
