The Traffic and Patrols Directorate at Abu Dhabi Police will be revealing new community-based initiatives within the 29th GCC Traffic Week. The events of the Week will be launched tomorrow Sunday in Abu Dhabi, under the slogan “Our Goal is Your Safety”.

Brigadier Eng. Hussein Ahmed Al Harthi, Director of Abu Dhabi Police Traffic and Patrol Directorate indicated that the innovative Traffic Week celebrations program aims to promote the various initiatives. It includes documentary films and several activities highlighting the strategic plans and comprehensive work mechanism that will improve traffic in the Abu Dhabi Emirate. These initiatives will support the positive outcomes of the awareness program “Together” to reduce traffic accidents. It is noteworthy that this program has efficiently contributed to raise traffic awareness, resulting in a 19% drop in traffic-related deaths in 2012 compared to 2011.

He added that the GCC traffic week events this year will focus on involving the public in the traffic safety issues, in addition to enhancing safety standards in schools and improving traffic awareness levels among students and workers.

Furthermore, Brigadier Al Harthi underscored the keenness of Abu Dhabi Police’s Directorate General of Traffic and Patrols to increase traffic awareness among the various segments of society, especially via the Internet, which has become the main source of information, as well as to encourage behavior change towards more compliance with traffic laws and reducing speed. He also pointed out that the comprehensive concept of traffic safety aims to adopt a wide range of plans, programs, regulations and preventive measures, to curb and prevent traffic accidents, protect lives and properties, in order to safeguard the security of the country and its human and economic resources.
