During a lecture held at New York Institute of Technology, Abu Dhabi campus, Abu Dhabi Police provided a series of educational guidelines to acquaint students with the dangers of so-called youth crimes.

The lecture was delivered by Lt. Colonel Expert Maryam Al Qahtani, Director of Criminal Biology Department at the Criminal Evidence Department of Abu Dhabi Police. The expert focused on DNA, youth crimes and ways to prevent them.

The lecture was attended by fourth year and Master’s degree students from the Faculty of Business Administration, as well as the teaching faculty at the Institute.

Lt. Colonel Expert Maryam emphasized the importance of communication between Abu Dhabi Police and the various universities and educational institutions, which reflects positively in various fields. Moreover, she underscored Abu Dhabi Police’s keenness to enhance this communication and collaboration, which yielded scientific agreements and exchange of experiences in training and scientific areas. 

In her lecture, the expert spoke about DNA, its definition, its development phases until becoming acceptable evidence; as well as its importance to serve criminal justice and prove lineage and kinship.

Furthermore, she reviewed a number of cases uncovered by the Criminal Evidence Department, using scientific methods, particularly “DNA”. She also stressed the keenness of Abu Dhabi Police to develop its scientific and practical resources, which earned most forensic laboratories in the Department international accreditations.

For his part, Lieutenant Ahmed Al Mansouri, Director of the Kinship Analysis and Lineage Branch at the Criminal Evidence Department, spoke about youth crimes and using “DNA” tests to identify perpetrators.

At the end of the lecture, the questions and inquiries of participants were answered.
