The Abu Dhabi Health authority honored the Law Respect Culture Office at the General Secretariat of the Office of H.H Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Interior, as a key partner in the success of awareness campaign titled “Abu Dhabi says No to Tobacco”. The campaign, launched by the Abu Dhabi Health Authority in May 2012, aims to curb the tobacco use phenomenon by children and teenagers; to create a smoke-free environment; to reduce all kinds of tobacco consumption, namely; cigarettes, Shisha and Midwakh (smoking pipes); and to ensure a clean environment in workplaces and enclosed public places.

Lieutenant colonel Dr. Salah Obeid Al Ghoul, Director of the Law Respect Culture Office, stated that such awareness campaign, with the participation of private and public entities as well as volunteering individuals, contribute positively and effectively to change the negative culture among individuals; and educate them on the risks that such practices pose to their health and the health of those around them.

He pointed out that many individuals lack knowledge on the legal health culture, and believe that smoking is a personal freedom that law doesn’t address. He added that the health security issue and related individual health is closely linked to the law that was issued to protect individuals and achieve their safety at all levels.

Al Ghoul called on all parties and individuals to exert further efforts to curb the scourge of smoking and reduce its consumption, in order to achieve the non- smoking 100 percent ban in the various public utilities in the Emirate of Abu Dhabi.

First Lieutenant Said Al Junaibi, from the Law Respect Culture Office, received a commemorative shield and certificate of appreciation from the Abu Dhabi Health Authority, which lauded the efforts of the Law Respect Culture Office in guaranteeing the success of the “Abu Dhabi says No to Tobacco” campaign.
