The Traffic and Patrol Directorate of the Abu Dhabi Police is organizing awareness programs to raise traffic awareness among all drivers, especially school bus drivers. It aims to educate drivers to avoid traffic accidents; the awareness programs are part of the fourth traffic awareness campaign launched by the Ministry of Interior, represented by the Traffic Coordination General Directorate, under the slogan: Traffic Safety for School Students. The program will last for three months.
Lieutenant Colonel Abdullah Al Mahri, Head of Traffic Institute Department said that the programs include a traffic awareness lecture organized by the Al Ain Traffic Institute Department in the Al Ain Emirates Authority Headquarters for pedestrian safety. The lecture was delivered by Captain Salem Ali Al Kutobi, Training Officer in the Traffic Institute Department. He stressed the department’s commitment to raise the level of traffic awareness among all of society’s categories in order to attain the highest level of safety.
The lecture focused on the need for drivers to reduce their speed near the pedestrian crossing lines in industrial areas, commercial centers, and residential areas giving the pedestrians the priority.
Major Mohsen Saeed Al Mansouri, Chief of the Al Ain Traffic and Patrol Directorate stated that they organized two awareness lectures for bus drivers in the Emirates Foundation for Transportations in Al Ain as part of the Ministry of Interior’s awareness campaign. One of the lectures is addressed to Arab drivers and the other for non-Arabs drivers. It included a PowerPoint presentation on the importance of school bus safety.
“We focused on raising awareness among drivers about violations and responded to the audience queries about the specific speed of the buses on different roads, and on other public inquiries that concern bus drivers,” he concluded.
