The Abu Dhabi Police Directorate General of Guards and Special Tasks organized an awareness lecture on health issues for its personnel. The lecture, which was delivered at the Directorate General building, was titled: “Genetic Blood Disorders- Risks, Treatment and Prevention.”

The lecture was attended by Colonel Saleh Al Rashidi, Director of Government and Diplomatic Facilities Protection Department; Colonel Mohammed Al Shokah from the Director General’s Office; Lieutenant Colonel Mohammed Salem Al Zaabi from the Strategic Planning Section; and a large number of officers, individuals, and employees at the department.

The lecture was delivered by HE Dr. Mariam Matar, Founder & Board Chairman at UAE Genetic Disease Association. She reviewed genetic blood disorders; these types of disorders are diseases that transfer from parents to children due to a disorder in the forms and components of red blood cells. This leads to the formation of red blood cells that are unable to carry out their natural phonations, thus causing illness symptoms in patients.

She shed light on elements that increase the range and spread of genetic diseases across the Arab world, due to high rates of marriage among relatives and the continuation of giving birth until the climacteric age.

For her part, Lt. Sheikha Al Zaabi, Manager of the Administrative and Legal Affairs Branch at the Directorate General of Guards and Special Tasks, said: “This lecture aims to enhance social involvement and spotlight this disease, which represents a tough challenge in the medical and social fields. It is very important to spread awareness and take preventive measures to fight genetic blood disorders.”

At the end of the lecture, the management honored the lecturer, HE Dr. Mariam Matar, for her significant role in this field and for her efforts in fighting genetic blood disorders.
