A delegation from the General Directorate of Civil Defense in Abu Dhabi took part in the Ninth International Conference on design methods held in Hong Kong. This participation aims to acquaint the Department with the latest innovations and international experiments on performance-based codes in the field of fire protection engineering and safety design methods; in addition to a number of researches and studies presented by experts and academics from Japan, China, America, Australia and Canada.
Colonel Mohammed Abdullah Al Nuaimi, Acting Director General of Abu Dhabi Civil Defense that the Department’s participation with a high-level delegation to the conference comes in line with its permanent quest to stay abreast of latest and most advanced international practices in this area; in collaboration with the Society of Fire Protection Engineers of America.
F or his part, Lt. Colonel Sami Khamis Al Naqbi, Director of Civil Protection and Safety stated that delegation is preparing a report comprising updated recommendations about evacuation of high-rise buildings, as well as tools and risk assessment methods. It is also coordinating to prepare a field trips program to some of the countries participating in the conference, such as Japan, China and America, to identify best practices in the field of fire protection engineering and safety design applied in these countries, and to study the aspects that can be implemented locally.
Engineer, Major Ahmed Jassim Al Mansoori, Head of the delegation, pointed out that the participation in the conference was a qualitative addition for the delegation, in the field of reviewing and adopting engineering projects and standards and means of building design, according to the latest performance-based methods, in addition to providing a database to ensure the validity of systems and equipment used in smart buildings.
The delegation included Engineer, Major Jamal Salem al Menhali, Head of Prevention and Safety Department, and Engineer Captain Salim Hashim al-Habashi, of the General Directorate of Civil Defense in Abu Dhabi.
