The Operations Department at the Abu Dhabi Civil Defense General Department carried out on Wednesday, a successful drill to evacuate all employees from the department’s building at Al Qubesat in Abu Dhabi, following the outbreak of a fire on the building’s first floor, as per the drill’s scenario.
Supervisor of the drill, Lt. Colonel Tariq Salih Al Sharif, Head of Operations Department at Abu Dhabi Civil Defense General Department, said: “The evacuation drill is part of the annual training plan carried out by the Civil Defense General Department, to assess readiness and preparedness of firefighting and ambulance teams in dealing with such accidents. It also embodies the strategy of the Ministry of Interior and the Civil Defense General Department to protect government buildings against fire hazards and raise the efficiency of safety and security forces in dealing with such emergencies”.
As per the scenario, the evacuation drill at the Operations Department began at 9:00 am. “The mock operation started when the police Operations Room received notification on a fire outbreak on the first floor of the department’s building. Immediately, all concerned civil defense and ambulance teams were dispatched to the scene, within the acceptable response time. Rescue teams evacuated employees from the building while firefighters worked to extinguish the fire before spreading. Upon headcount, it turned out there was a person trapped on the building’s roof. Rescue teams went back into the building and saved the trapped person, who was transferred to the nearest hospital by Abu Dhabi Police air ambulance aircraft to receive treatment,” Al Sharif explained.
Lt. Colonel Al Sharif indicated that the civil defense center of Al Qubesat, Abu Dhabi; the Traffic and Patrols Directorate and the Emergency and Public Safety Department at Abu Dhabi Police GHQ participated in the drill, praising the cooperation of the participating entities, which brought success to the drill.
