Motorists called not to send congratulatory text messages while driving

Motorists must exercise extra caution during the Eid Al Fitr holidays, especially since they are likely to receive congratulatory phone calls or messages while driving, Traffic and Patrols Directorate of Abu Dhabi Police called.

Traffic statistics revealed that the number of traffic offences of using mobile phone while driving during the last 8 months reached 16.243.

Reading text messages and using hand-held phones whilst driving cause the driver to lose concentration, which increase the likelihood of traffic accidents, said Colonel Khamis Ishaq, Deputy Director of Traffic and Patrols.
