The Ministry of Interior introduced its recruits to the community police concept and its role in maintaining society’s security and stability. The recruits received training on communication skills and how to manage relationships with individuals and institutions.
The Institute of Community Policing and Police Sciences, in cooperation with the Community Police Department at the Abu Dhabi Police General Headquarters, organized a series of workshops addressing the community police concept. The workshops included training the recruits on skills of forging partnerships with individuals and institutions, collecting information, executing environmental surveys and solving community problems and disputes.
The workshops also introduced participants to the community police concept and its importance, along with its principles, techniques, methods, success factors and challenges.
The list of speakers at the workshops included: Expert Tareq Ghafouri, a Community Police Consultant in England; Captain Raid Al Muhairi, Community Police Department at the Abu Dhabi Police General Headquarters; and Dr. Qais Al Obaidi, Training and Development Consultant at the Institute of Community Policing and Police Sciences.
Notably, the community police concept is relatively new; the community security addresses the positive impact of police on communities and institutions. It is a concept that involves the expansion of security maintenance responsibility circles, and adopting proactive and precautionary actions to fight crimes as an alternative to procedures related to solving problems reactively.
