Joy Ngozi Ezeilo, the UN special rapporteur on human trafficking, especially of women and children, visited the Department of the Social Support Centers of the Abu Dhabi Police Monday evening.

The UN official was invited by the UAE Deputy of the Foreign Ministry in order to view the efforts exerted by the state and its governmental organizations in the field of anti-human trafficking crimes.

The UN official commended the efforts of the Department of Social Support Centers of the Abu Dhabi Police in handling social problems, issues of domestic violence and family disputes in a scientific and contemporary way, which highlights the state’s determination to eliminate the various social phenomena threatening society’s security and stability.

During the visit, Joy Ngozi Ezeilo met with Brigadier General Najem Abdullah Al Hosani, Director of Social Support Centers, and reviewed the efforts exerted by the Ministry of Interior and the Abu Dhabi Police to provide emotional and social support for the victims in general, through the Social Support Centers. Al Hosani also explained the role of the centers to provide psychological support to human trafficking victims, especially those who are under the age of 18 years. At the end of the visit, both parties exchanged memorial gifts.

The meeting was also attended by Mubarak Al Hammadi, Diplomatic Attaché of the Human Rights Department at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, accompanying the UN official.
