The United Arab Emirates participated in the 8th meeting of the Heads of INTERPOL National Central Bureaus, held in Lyon, France. The meeting was attended by 270 representatives from 148 countries.

Colonel Ali Salem Al Khayyal, Director of the INTERPOL Department in the Ministry of Interior, head of the UAE delegation said that the meeting, which was held over three days, discussed a number of strategic initiatives that addressed global challenges faced by the 190 member countries. Those challenges included cybercrime and security challenges they represent to the police.

“The meeting discussed possible ways of strengthening cooperation between police institutions, and the importance of international information exchange in order to prevent modern crimes like internet fraud, theft of travel documents, money laundry and all transnational crimes.” added Al Khayyal.

The meeting highlighted the importance of training police staff members, and building the capacity of law-enforcement bodies in order to unveil criminal trends, analyze criminal information, and launch joint INTERPOL operations targeting suspect pirates.

The UAE delegation included Colonel Salem Khalifa Al Remethi and Major Adel Al Jokar from Dubai Police, and Captain Khalifa Al Qertassi from Abu Dhabi Police.
