A young Asian man (an infiltrator without identification) feigns thirst in an attempt to steal from a banking client in Abu Dhabi. After convincing a motorist that one of hisvehicletires was broken, the man pretended to be thirsty after seeing a bottle of water in the car. He pretended to reach for the bottle while trying to steal money from the car, when a pedestrian screams (Thief! Thief!), which resulted in the man’s arrest.

Colonel Dr. Rashid Mohammed Borshid, Head of the Criminal Investigation Department (CID), said: “N.M. (Afghani, 19 years) tried to steal from a banking client D.M. (Palestinian, 44 years), after watching him for some time outside a bank on the Muroor St. in Abu Dhabi. D.M. had an envelope with 35,000 dirhams inside, which he placed inside the car’s glove box.”

He added: “When the motorist stepped out of the car to check the tire, he heard a scream from a pedestrian saying, ‘Thief… Thief.’He then realized that someone was sitting in the front seat of his car going through his belongings. He rushed back to his car to catch him, but the suspect managed to escape. The motorist tried to follow him, but he lost his trace among the buildings.”

Borshid said: “Because the police are watching security everywhere, a police patrol in the area saw the pursuit, and rushed to where the suspect disappeared. Using their security sense, the patrol members found him hiding under a four-wheel-drive vehicle in the area.”

At the police station, the suspect denied his intention to steal the envelope and said that he was in the car to drink water due to thirst. His efforts to convince the police failed; he was offered cold water and handcuffed to be presented in court.
