The Al Ain Traffic and Patrols Department at the Traffic and Patrols Directorate General of Abu Dhabi Police revoked 92 driving licenses for violating traffic laws last April.
Major Saif Mohammed Nuaif Al Ameri, Acting Chief of the Al Ain Traffic and Patrols Department , noted that reaching the traffic point limit results from committing serious violations; namely, truck drivers overtaking other vehicles in a dangerous manner (resulting in 24 points), reckless driving, and racing on the roads. Moreover, he urged motorists to obey traffic laws and speed limits saying that the majority of offences relate to speeding.
"Revoking the driving licenses of reckless motorists and suspending them from driving for a specified period of time prevents them from putting their lives and the lives of others at risk. Such punishment is divided into several different degrees: first-time violators will be banned from driving for three months, while the second and third violations result in a license revocation of six-month and one year respectively. When a person commits a fourth violation, his license will be revoked permanently. If he continues to drive with a canceled license, he shall be punished and transferred to the concerned authority for investigation," added Al Amri
Furthermore, Al Amri called upon motorists to abide by traffic laws, observe speed limits on the internal and external roads, maintain sufficient distance between vehicles, and pay attention on the road. He specifically warned motorists against using their mobile phones while driving in addition to encouraging them to fasten their seatbelts and regularly inspecting their tires.
