Study recommends introducing traffic safety in school curricula

The Abu Dhabi Traffic Police have reported some 10,552 traffic offences in the Emirate over the last two weeks, ranging from jumping the red signal to driving with out licence

Offences related to over speeding reached over 7,900 cases in addition to 10 other offences that were classified as reckless driving.

Ten offenses of driving with out licence were recorded during the period.

Other types of offences included jumping the red signal, using mobile phone while driving, lack of safety distance and not using the seat belt.

A few cases of overtaking in prohibited areas were reported according to the traffic police reports.

A study conducted by Col.Khalid Abdul Latif Al Dousary, Director of the Rescue and First Aid department of the Abu Dhabi Police have suggested that the culture of safety must be inculcated in school children by incorporating the same in their school curricula.

The study also suggests using the full potential of the print and electronic media to create safety awareness to all segments of the society.

Greater attention should also be given to the quality of training imparted by the driving schools in producing responsible drivers with good driving habits says the study.

The study further calls upon the resident expatriates to use their social and cultural clubs to increase the safety awareness among their community members.
