Under the patronage of Lt. General HH Sheikh Saif bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Interior, the UAE will be celebrating as of Sunday, the Unified GCC Inmates’ Week, under the slogan “My Family is in your hands”. Lt. General Saif Abdullah Al Sha’far, Undersecretary at the Ministry of Interior will inaugurate the events at the Directorate General of Correctional and Punitive Establishments GHQ, which will continue until December 12th.
Brigadier Hamad Adeel Al Shamsi, Director General of Correctional and Punitive Establishments at the Ministry of Interior, indicated the preparations for the Week’s events in the State have been completed. He noted that the Week’s events were approved by Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) Interior Ministers.
Moreover, he added that the Unified GCC Inmates Week aims to spread the culture of post-release care and the need to integrate released inmates into society. He stressed the importance of concerted efforts between the entire communities, in addition to the role of competent institutions, to rehabilitate inmates.
Al Shamsi indicated that the Week’s events include a number of artistic and sports activities, in addition to cultural competitions organized by the Ministry of the Interior, represented by the General Directorate of Correctional and Punitive Establishments, and the regional departments at the State level.
