The Western Region Traffic Department, affiliated with the Traffic and Patrols Directorate of Abu Dhabi Police, organized an awareness raising lecture for students at the Bainouna Science and Technology Institute in al-Marfa’ city.

Major Suhail Sayyah Al Mazrou’i, Head of the Western Region Traffic Department mentioned that a comprehensive program has been prepared for summer awareness for students. This program includes traffic awareness messages that will be provided as part of the “Summer without Accidents” campaign launched by the Ministry of Interior, in addition to its continuous efforts under the “Salama” initiative, by intensifying the awareness raising points on the Abu Dhabi-al-Ghuweifat road, to guarantee the safety of those travelling by land.

First Lieutenant Abdurrahman Al Ali, Director of Traffic Control at the Western Region Traffic Department explained that the lecture included a brief overview on traffic accidents, especially those involving students; pointing out the risks of driving without a driving license and the risks of motorcycle showing off.

During the lectures, students took part in theoretical programs about how to cross intersections regulated by traffic lights; the meaning of pedestrian signals; as well as the risks of crossing the road while the signal is still red or before the vehicles stop completely. The students were also educated about the importance of using bridges and tunnels and crossing in the designated pedestrian areas to avoid being run over, and the risks of crossing at non-designated locations.
