Emirate community confront firecrackers

Some citizens and residents consider firecrackers a grave risk that threaten the safety of our community. They ask for unified efforts to confront firecrackers and avoid their dangers. There should be alternatives which allow children to have fun safely.

ADP has been educating the public on the dangers of firecrackers, with two campaigns organized by the Department of Security Media: Communication with AMAN Service and warning against the dangers of firecrackers.

Colonel Hamad Al Afreet, Director of Firearms and explosives at ADP said "There is no illegal firecrackers' storing facility in Abu Dhabi Emirate. This is due to strict control and follow up, in addition to community awareness".

"Awareness programmes and campaigns have contributed to the curbing of firecrackers among community members, especially parents, who have responded greatly in this regard. I urge the public to call AMAN Service on the toll-free number (8002626) or send a SMS to (2626) to report any cases related to firecrackers", added Al Afreet.

Sheikh Talib Al Shuhi, Director of Preaching at the General Authority for Islamic Affairs and Endowments, has urged parents to monitor their children and not allow them to buy firecrackers as they threaten their safety.

Some citizen and residents believe that the family is the first line of defence against the danger of firecrackers.

Khalifa bin Huweiddin Al Kitbi, Member of the Federal National Council (FNC), has reviewed the legislation on firecrackers: "The legislator calls for limiting their spread and has specified their dangers. Only well reputed companies shall be allowed to deal in firecrackers. They are a typ of explosive”.

FNC has played an effective role in discussing and making the law of firecrackers. Lack of safety and safety precautions in toys sold at markets, in addition to bad method of storing motivated legislators to find systems for using these items in away that does not harm individuals' safety.

He has lauded ADP efforts to educate the public on the risks of these toys through media campaigns.
