The Al Ain Civil Defense and Rapid Intervention teams managed to control a blaze that broke out on Monday evening in a commercial building, after evacuating 16 individuals.

In detail, Lt. Col. Rashid Hamar Ain Al Darmaki, Director of Al Ain Civil Defense Department in Al Ain stated that the Operations Room received notification at around 10:30 pm on Monday evening about a fire that broke out in a commercial building on Oud Al Touba Street. Firefighter teams rushed to the scene in record time and tried to contain the blaze which started on the fourth floor and began spreading to an apartment on the fifth floor. Three people, including a firefighter, sustained minor injuries as a result of inhaling smoke, and were transferred to the hospital to undergo the necessary treatment.

Lt. Colonel Al Darmaki explained that it took around two hours to extinguish the fire and that evidence was sent to the Forensic Laboratory to determine the causes of the blaze. Moreover, he indicated that the teams carried out a cooling process to prevent the fire from spreading to neighboring apartments. “Investigations are still underway to determine the circumstances of the fire,” he continued. 

Al Darmaki called on the public to exercise caution and comply with safety rules. He stressed the need to regularly inspect electrical appliances, switch them off when not in use, avoid overloading electrical conductors, and most importantly, make sure that electrical wiring is well protected inside shielding tubes and functioning correctly.
