The Al Ain Traffic and Patrols section at Abu Dhabi Police Traffic and Patrols Directorate intensified its traffic control at traffic lights and intersections in an effort to reduce red light offences, which accounted for 4% among the leading causes of traffic accidents in the city of Al Ain last year. This comes in line with the traffic safety strategy implemented by the Directorate to reduce serious violations, and their resulting accidents leading to deaths and serious injuries.
Major Salah Abdullah Al Humairi, head of Al Ain Traffic and Patrols Section, emphasized the Abu Dhabi Police Traffic and Patrols Directorate’s keenness to raise the level of traffic safety in every possible way, by increasing traffic control devices and patrols around traffic lights and intersections, to reduce red light jumping. He indicated that Al Ain Police recorded 2,114 offences involving jumping the red lights last year.
The head of Al Ain Traffic and Patrols Section called on motorists to take part in the traffic awareness programs, by reducing speed when traffic lights turn from green to yellow before turning to red, to avoid colliding with vehicles coming from other directions.
Concluding, Al Humairi underscored the importance of respecting traffic signals; calling on motorists to bring their vehicles to a full stop when traffic light is red and move only when the light turns green.
