The Medical Services Department of the Abu Dhabi Police educated employees at the Al Ain Police Directorate on colorectal l cancer. Dr. Sameh Muhammad Fakhri, gastroenterology, liver disease, and endoscopy consultant and Dr. Reem Al Muhairi, Family Medicine Consultant at the Medical Services Department of the Abu Dhabi Police, explained the causes of the disease and ways of protection.

Dr. Fakhri said: "Early detection can be achieved by undergoing a colonoscopy once every 10 years; additionally, a blood-in-stool test is recommended once every two years for individuals ranging from 40-75 years. According to the statistics of the Health Authority-Abu Dhabi for 2011-2012, colorectal cancer is the second most common cancer, forming 8% of all cancer cases following breast cancer, which forms 25.8%. A total of 101 cases were diagnosed in Abu Dhabi; 60% of these cases are male patients and 40% are females.

The Medical Services Section of Al Ain delivered a lecture at the Punitive and Correctional Establishment's Section in Al Ain for male and female inmates and employees. The lecture, which was delivered in Arabic and English, raised awareness on colon and rectal cancer.

Dr. Angham Ali Aman, Health Training and Education Unit Officer at the Medical Services Section of Al Ain, spoke on the disease's development, reiterating the benefit of early detection as recovery rates are higher for patients when the cancer is still in its early stages.
