In cooperation with the Dubai Health Authority and the Medical Services Department at the Abu Dhabi Police Finance and Support Department, the Abu Dhabi Police Punitive and Correctional Institution recently held educational medical lectures for the female inmates and employees at the institution, as part of the national campaign for prevention of cervical cancer. The lectures were presented in Arabic and English, and were attended by a number of obstetricians and gynecologists.
Dr. Lamia Safi El Deen, from the Dubai Health Authority, explained in her speech, the objectives of the campaign, which are to increase awareness among the female inmates and employees about the dangers and preventative measures of cervical cancer. She underscored the necessity of consulting an expert in this field should a woman feel any symptoms of cervical cancer, noting that it is a silent disease that can only be detected by regular pap smears.
Dr. Rashida Abbas, from the Medical Services Department, gave educational medical lectures on the causes of cervical cancer and the importance of early detection. She also warned the women against neglecting regular tests. She explained the prevention and treatment methods. The lecture included presentations on the main topics, and brochures and fliers were handed out to the inmates and employees at the institution.
