The Al Ghuweifat border checkpoint has witnessed intensity in the number of private vehicles and tourist buses moving in and out of the border. This coincides with school holidays in the KSA, Qatar and Kuwait, and the large numbers of Gulf families wishing to spend their holidays in the UAE.
Major Salim bin Tassah Al Ameri, Head of Border Point Police Station, said that thousands of visitors have already crossed the checkpoint. “We are expecting an even larger number of departures, with people heading to the Holy Lands to perform Umrah or to visit their families,” he noted.
He added: "The Ports and Airports Security Police took measures to organize the entry of visitors to the UAE with the various entities operating at the checkpoint, by forming competent work teams to complete passengers’ procedures and transactions, each in their respective jurisdiction.”
He also noted that the Traffic and Patrols Section at the Western Region Police Directorate, is providing major support in the internal and external organization of traffic flow, with a view to avoid traffic jams on either sides of the checkpoint.
