The Forensic Evidence Department at the Abu Dhabi Police Directorate General of Security and Ports Affairs has earned the renewal of its ISO/IEC 17025:2005 accreditation. The department was able to successfully fulfill the certificate’s general requirements and standards for the competence of testing and calibration laboratories set by the United Kingdom Accreditation Service (UKAS).
Colonel Abdul Rahman Al Hammadi, Head of the Forensic Evidence Department at the Directorate General of Security and Ports Affairs at Abu Dhabi Police, noted that the international accreditation process included document analysis, biology tests, DNA profiling, and fingerprinting. “This year, UKAS added more tests, such as DNA profiling for parentage, fingerprinting, and examination of currency,” added Colonel Al Hammadi.
Furthermore, Colonel Al Hammadi said that the department was able to successfully complete 53 laboratory tests in accordance with international standards and specifications.
“So far, the Forensic Evidence Department succeeded in obtaining six certificates fulfilling various ISO standards, in addition to the Six Sigma certificates that prove the improvements made in alcohol and DNA tests,” said Colonel Al Hammadi. He also stressed that this achievement is made in pursuance of the directives set by the police leadership to support and keep pace with continuous development, with the aim of achieving the Abu Dhabi Police’s vision and strategies, so as to reach the highest standards of excellence within a police system that is managed efficiently and effectively.
