A delegation from the Security Inspection Department affiliated to the Directorate General of Security and Ports Affairs took part in the activities of the Eurasia Veterinary Conference held in Singapore. The conference discussed several work papers and specialized scientific research studies over the course of 4 days.
Major Saeed Al Kathiri, Chief of Veterinary Services Section at the Security Inspection Department and head of the Delegation, explained that the yearly conference, which brings together veterinary specialists from all over the world, reviewed several scientific research studies about animal health. “Workshops were also held to acquaint participants with the latest scientific applications in animal health care and treatment from bacterial and parasitic infectious diseases. Other workshops tackled the different types of tumors that affect small animals, and the role of chemotherapy, medication and surgical interventions in the healing process,” added Major Al Kathiri. He also noted that lectures held as part of the conference, tackled animal nutrition, the major diseases due to malnutrition, heart attacks, as well as blood, autoimmune and neurological diseases and methods of detection.
In conclusion, Major Al Kathiri indicated that the conference announced the development of a new vaccine against canine leishmaniasis disease that spread by the bite of infected sand flies. The disease affects both animals and humans; it causes ulcerations and eczemas, weight loss, weakness followed by death.
