Two Emirati children aged nine died in a grave road accident that also injured four others in Al Ain on Saturday afternoon.

According to the Abu Dhabi Traffic and Patrols Directorate, the accident involving two vehicles happened at around 4.45pm on the Truck Road towards Razeen and Al Qoa. One of the children, identified as FH, died instantly while the other, MM died upon arrival in the hospital.

Four commuters, whose identities and ages could not be ascertained, received moderate to severe injuries and were rushed to the nearest hospital. Colonel Hamad Nasser Al Bloushi, Director of External Roads Traffic and Patrols Department at the Directorate, said the fatal accident was caused due to excessive speeding and overtaking from the wrong side causing the vehicle to crash into another coming from the opposite direction of the two-lane road.

He appealed to motorists to be attentive while driving on the two-lane roads to avoid occurrence of such accidents to which innocent people fall victims.

Civil defence, ambulance and patrol vehicles rushed to the scene.
