As many as 877 were recorded against drivers who failed to wear safety belts during last November in Al Ain, according to statistics revealed by Abu Dhabi Police Traffic and Patrols Directorate.
Major Mohammed Salim Al Ameri, director of Traffic Control, Al Ain Traffic and Patrols Section urged motorists to wear their seat belts while driving, stressing the efficiency of the belt in reducing serious injuries and deaths during collisions.
Traffic studies have proved that wearing safety belts reduces fatalities in car accidents by 45 per cent in small cars and by 60 per cent in light vehicles. By using safety belts, Injuries also drop by 50-83 per cent.
Al Ameri also stressed the importance of putting children in the back seat of cars as this will prevent them from being pushed outside the vehicles during crashes.
