The Procurement and Warehouses Department in the Finance and Services Directorate General at Abu Dhabi Police held a successful fire drill and safely evacuated staff members and customers from its building within minutes. The fire drill was held within the framework of the Environment, Health and Safety Management System (EHSMS) project to assess the readiness of relevant entities when dealing with such emergency situations, to ensure the safety of staff members and customers, and to protect facilities.
The fire drill focused on testing the efficiency of the personnel and customers in the speed of response. The scenario was carried out with the participation of the Al Qubesat Civil Defense Station, the Central Operations Department, the Department of Emergency and Public Safety at Abu Dhabi Police, the Traffic and Patrols Directorate, and the Security Media Department in the Directorate General of Security Support at the General Secretariat of the Office of HH Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Interior.
Colonel Abdullah Ali Massoud, Deputy Head of the Procurement and Warehouses Department, revealed that, as per the procedural plan, the Civil Defense teams and supporting parties acted upon receiving the tip regarding a fire outbreak in the building’s preparatory kitchen on the second floor. “The scenario was handled with the utmost professionalism,” he said; describing how Ambulance and Rescue teams simulated the rescue of two injured persons suffering from smoke inhalation and assisted two staff members by helping them evacuate from their offices. Colonel Massoud noted that these scenarios coincided with the evacuation of the first three floors of the building, where staff members and customers safely left the building via designated passage points and gathered at the assembly point outside of the building.
“The drill was successful in achieving a swift response from all participating parties, in testing the emergency plan, and in evaluating the efficiency of the security personnel,” he said. “The staff members and customers were all safely evacuated from the building through safe passageways and safely gathered at the assembly point located outside of the building.”
In a bid to reach the highest levels, the steps and procedures followed throughout the exercise and evacuation were evaluated and supervised by: Colonel Abdullah Ali Massoud, Deputy Head of the Procurement and Warehouses Department; Lieutenant Colonel Hamid Abdullah bin Aziz Al Sharifi, Chief of the Bidding Section in the Department; and Major Rashid Hamid Al Ameri, Chief of the Maintenance Section.
