Police take steps to rid streets of beggars

Women detectives patrolling streets near Mosques, Markets and Banks

 

Women detectives are now patrolling Abu Dhabi streets in a crackdown on beggars exploiting sentiments during the holy month of Ramadan.

The move is also part of a drive by Abu Dhabi police to root out begging in the city.

Colonel Abdul Karim Mohammed Al Marzouqi, head of the detective unit at the security affairs department of the Abu Dhabi police, said investigation and follow-up teams, including women detectives, had been formed to patrol residential areas, commercial malls, government departments and around mosques

He also noted that, anti begging measures have been beefed up this year on the direct orders of Major General Sheikh Saif Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Undersecretary of the Ministry of Interior

 

Toll -free help lines had been provided to help reduce the nuisance of begging

Public from Abu Dhabi and its outlying areas can reach the police on 8002208,The Tariff residents can call the police on 8002204,while Al Ain residents can reach the police on 8005399

‘We appeal to the general public to help us reduce this seasonal nuisance by contacting the police through the above numbers’ said Al Dhahiri
