The Police Officers Training Institute at the Ministry of Interior organized an educational lecture for officers enrolled in the Intermediate Leadership course No. 49. The lecture was delivered by the UAE writer and publisher Jamal Ibrahim Al Shehhi, Secretary General of Emirates Novel Award.
The lecture is part of the MoI’s initiatives to promote reading among staff members, in line with the declaration of 2016 as the “Year of Reading” in the UAE.
The lecturer spoke about his experience as an author and working in the publishing business, shedding the light on the various difficulties and obstacles that he encountered during this process. He also spoke about his decision to dedicate his time to writing as a profession; particularly in the process of authoring his book titled "Cafe". He said that the book is inspired by the time spent in the United States of America where he was studying, during which he visited an old theater that was transformed into a public library, and which houses a "Cafe". This prompted him to bring this idea to the United Arab Emirates, where his project aims at not only recreating the library, but also to transform the library into a cultural forum, where cultural evenings and book signing events are organized.
The lecture was attended by Colonel Dr. Ahmad Ali Alkhzimi, Director of the Police Officers Training Institute, and a number of officers.
It is worth mentioning that the Police Officers Training Institute at the Ministry of Interior has organized a number of initiatives since the beginning of the year, to promote reading, notably the “My Experience with a Book” initiative, which hosted a number of authors and readers to talk about a book they had read, in order to encourage reading.
