With the advent of the new school year, the Department of Community Police at Abu Dhabi Police is implementing an outreach program this month across schools in Abu Dhabi, under the slogan "Safer Schools", in cooperation with the Abu Dhabi Education Council.

Deputy Head of the ADP Department of Community Police, Major Youssef Faraj, noted that the department has introduced a distinctive initiative this year, mostly focused on collective participation, in order to reinforce patriotism, instill values, enhance communication and gain the confidence of the school community.

Adding further, he said: “As a part of this initiative, we will examine a set of topics and issues related to students’ lives, such as encouraging positive behaviors, encouraging initiative and participation in volunteer work for the service of the community, as well as preventing negative phenomena and objectionable behaviors. There will also forums for parents to discuss the best methods to supervise children, and to identify and correct any potential changes that may occur in their behavior.”

According to Major Faraj, the Department of Community Police has assigned special teams to visit schools during the new academic year, with the participation of school staff and supervisors. “These teams started carrying out their tasks as of the first school day, by ensuring students' safety, and guiding parents on the proper way to park their cars to ensure the safe exit of children on their way to school. They also participated in organizing traffic in front of schools and distributed sample gifts and awareness brochures with advice pertaining to students’ safety,” he continued.

Moreover, Major Faraj explained that the outreach plan features a set of lectures and exercise drills on the various forms of safety measures, with the participation of the Civil Defense, the Traffic Police, the Awqafs and the social support. In conclusion, he noted: “The outreach plan will also focus on the educational aspects and the need to instill values and ideals in students’ spirits. As a part of the awareness program, high school students will visit the Police College. Other visits will be planned for the different educational stages; including visits to a number of the police departments.”
