Violators of heavy vehicle rules to face hefty fines

The new regulations will be effective from 1st January

The heavy vehicles violating the new regulations of weight and axle distance in Abu Dhabi will face fines ranging from DH 500 to DH 10,000 according to traffic department officials.

The new regulations have been formulated on the directives of Lt.Gen.Sheikh Saif Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, the Minister of Interior, and will come in to force from the first of January 2006, said Colonel Gaith Al Zaabi, Director of traffic and patrols department at the general headquarters of Abu Dhabi Police.

The new specifications have been announced several times through the media and also organized workshops to clarify any doubts. The new regulations have been introduced to regulate the traffic flow smoothly and also to assure the road safety of the passengers.

The new regulations must be followed by all the transport companies and others concerned and various out posts will be set up to monitor and bring the violators to book.
The violators will face a hefty fine and also will have to face jail term for any repeated offence besides fine.

Al Zaabi urged all the transportation companies and others concerned to strictly adhere to the new regulations and cooperate with the Police to maintain safety standards. Any one who seeks to clarify any doubts regarding the new regulations can contact the traffic department for the clarification.

Captain Hussein Al Harthy, head of the road engineering section at the department said, patrols with technicians will be deployed on all roads and highways for inspecting the vehicles allowed specifications from the first of January.

The new specifications have been decided after detailed studies and research to ensure smooth traffic flow and road safety. He added.
