UAE Represents GCC Countries in the CBRN Meeting in Brussels
The United Arab Emirates represented the Gulf Cooperation Council countries in the 3rd meeting of the Regional Secretariats of the European Union Chemical, Biological, Radiological and Nuclear Risk Mitigation Centers of Excellence (EU CBRN CoE) recently held in Brussels.
Leading the UAE delegation was Brigadier Eng. Hussein Ahmed Al Harithi, Director General of Central Operations at Abu Dhabi Police, in his capacity as a director of the EU CBRN CoE Regional Secretariat in the Gulf Cooperation Countries (GCC). The delegation comprised Captain Khalid Al Badi and Lieutenant Eng. Ali Madfa’i.
It is worth mentioning that the Regional Secretariats of the European Union Chemical, Biological, Radiological and Nuclear Risk Mitigation Centers of Excellence (EU CBRN CoE) complements the EU CBRN CoE Initiative, which is funded by the European Commission and implemented in cooperation with the United Nations Interregional Crime and Justice Research Institute (UNICRI). It aims to ensure response to risks related to incidents that include loss or theft of nuclear and radioactive devices and the illegal trade in chemical, biological, radioactive and nuclear materials, which have become an increasing source of concern.
The center plays a valuable role in developing and improving standards and policies locally; maximizing local and regional capabilities via cooperation among all local authorities through partners; improving general knowledge level; facilitating best practices exchange among countries and avoiding double standards. It also aims at promoting cooperation and integration by creating a national expert team to evaluate needs, provide national strategic support to mitigate risks.
