Road deaths in Abu Dhabi fall

 

 

The number of peoples killed in Abu Dhabi roads has fallen by 9 percent according to the traffic reports

 

Colonel Khamees Ishaq, acting director of the Abu Dhabi traffic department, said the number of traffic deaths from road accidents caused by reckless driving fell to 32 from the first quarter of this year down from 35 percent during the same period in 2005.

 

He said that ,although the accidents have increased to 390 in the first quarter of 2006 compared to 342 last year ,an increase of 14 percentage the number of deaths and that of seriously injured have fallen by 9 percent and 13 percent respectively.

 

He attributed the fall in number of deaths and injuries due to the on going buckle up campaign launched by the traffic police and the constant vigil maintained by the traffic police mobile squads and the installation of highly sophisticated cameras to catch the speeding motorists.

 

Since the start of last year the traffic department has intensified its road patrols to check that the road users comply with all the traffic regulations. They have also launched many road safety campaigns which include creating awareness among children at their school regarding the road safety measures.

 

Most of the accidents are caused due to the negligence from the part of the drivers .if they follow the traffic rules and drive accordingly the accidents can be avoided, he added.
