New edition of number plates for newly registering vehicles in Abu Dhabi from today
Vehicles registration department of the Abu Dhabi traffic and licencing department at the General Headquarters of Abu Dhabi Police has announced the issuance of high tech electronically readable new edition of number plates for all the vehicles on new registration from today.
This was announced at a press conference held at the vehicle registration department yesterday. The press was briefed by Lt.Col. Mohammed Mayouf Al Kutbi, director of the vehicle registration department, Dr.Jehad Sabatha, Director of the Emirates driving school, and other Senior Officers of the department.
The new edition of the number plates will start from series five and begin with number one to 99,999 and will be in red colour.The new edition of the number plate comes as part of the strategy of the department to implement technology aided up gradation for vehicle registration and to enhance security measures.
The number plate will have a high tech built in hologram which makes it difficult to duplicate or tamper with. The number plates are being manufactured by a specially created German company which will have its branches in Abu Dhabi and Al Ain. The company will fix the number plates with a new method instead of the present screwing style for better security. The company will also have service outlets at the vehicle registration department for the user’s convenience.
The company has started manufacturing the new edition of number plates in its factory in Mustafa, where only Nationals will be employed especially people with special needs.
The new edition of number plates will be issued only for the newly registering vehicles and the special numbers will be allotted through auction from next year. The implementation of the new number plates will enhance the security mechanism for the owners, traffic department and for the vehicle itself.
The details regarding the vehicle, its ownership and any other information’s codified will be available in a data base with the registration department and in turn this system will be linked to the factory that manufacture the new number plates.
