The Ministry of Interior’s Child Protection Center recently organized a course in Abu Dhabi on “Recognizing and Responding to Cases of Violence against Children”, in cooperation with Abu Dhabi Education Council (ADEC) and the Abu Dhabi Heath Services Co. (Seha). The course targeted 360 school nurses; including 168 from Abu Dhabi, 148 from Al Ain, and 44 from the Western Region, in a bid to qualify them to recognize and report cases of violence against children.

A variety of topics were discussed as a part of the training course; including child protection policies in schools; the Child Rights Law “Wadeema”; the concepts of child abuse and neglect; the criminal law; child victim support and identifying the potential dangers to children, and reporting abuse and neglect cases.

The course was supervised by Maryam Al Ali, Head of Prevention, Awareness, and Guidance Section at the MoI Child Protection Center. Participants were trained on the proper ways to recognize all types of child abuse, and reporting them via the proper channels, as well as combating and preventing bullying, child abuse, and all types of neglect and violence, which could have a negative impact on children.
