3/1/2006

UAE security personal have arrested 60,719 deported expatriates trying to sneak back in to the UAE since the department of order and airport security began using an iris scan system in 2002.

The department has scanned the iris of 430,843 people coming to the country, said Colonel Gharib Mohammed Darwich, Chief of borders and airport security department at the general Headquarters of Abu Dhabi police.

The old system of checking the documents and the fingerprints is not a fool proof as some people have attempted to forge the documents. Others tried to fool the authorities by wearing colored contact lenses but were caught when their iris were scanned.

He said that authorities world wide have been able to catch more deportees sneaking through boarders sine the installation of iris scanning technology at major airports and boarder posts
