Major General Humaid Mohammed Al Hadidi, Commander-in-Chief of Sharjah Police will inaugurate the events of the annual GCC Inmates’ Week celebration held under the theme “Lead me to a Better Future”. The celebration will be taking place in Qasbaa Region in Sharjah from 7th to 11th December.

The Organizing Committee in charge of the preparations for the annual GCC Inmates’ Week, chaired by Brigadier Hamad Adeel Al Shamesi, Director General of Correctional and Punitive Establishments at the Ministry of Interior, will hold a press conference on Monday at the Directorate General of the Punitive and Correctional Establishments in Abu Dhabi. During the press conference, Brigadier Al Shamesi will be announcing the activities and events, which will be organized by the regional departments at the countrywide level to mark the GCC Inmates’ Week that has been approved by the GCC Interior Ministers.

Brigadier Al Shamsi indicated that the GCC Inmates Week aims at spreading the culture of post-release care and the need to integrate former inmates into society. Furthermore, he underscored the need for concerted efforts between the various society institutions to carry out the reform process, which is not solely incumbent upon the punitive and correctional establishments. He also pointed out that families of inmates are guilt-less victims and it is the role of government and private institutions to make sure that those who have been reformed are not looked at by society in a negative way.

In conclusion, he noted that the week’s events include a number of sports and cultural activities and educational contests organized by the Ministry of Interior, represented by the Directorate General of Punitive and Correctional Establishments and other regional departments at the countrywide level.
