Families of martyrs get bravery medals
 
 
In compliance with the directive of the President, His Highness Shaikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan, a commendation ceremony was organised to honour eight martyrs who sacrificed their lives for the cause of duty and motherland.
The families of the eight martyrs received medals for bravery at the ceremony yesterday. The Minister of Interior, Lt-Gen. Shaikh Saif bin Zayed Al Nahyan, was present at the commendation ceremony.
In a Press statement following the commendation ceremony, Shaikh Saif said: “Praising martyrs is our duty. They embody bravery and sacrifice."
The distinguished awards ceremony started with the speech of Saif Abdullah Al Shafar, under-secretary of the Ministry of Interior.
The eight martyrs include Captain pilot Ali Saed Mohammed Al Yabholi Al Dhahiri who died on November 4, 1974 in a jet plane crash; Captain pilot Abdulrahman Rashid Majid Al Zumor who died on August 10, 1994 while he was on duty tracking down some infiltrators in Al Seneiya area in Umm Al Quwain. The helicopter he was in crashed; Captain Mohammad Abdulaziz Hamad Al Sherawi who died in 1992; Lieutenant Saif Rashid Mohammad Al Teneiji who died on October 12, 2003 while chasing a criminal in a car theft case in Sharjah. As the accused tried to escape in the stolen car, it broke down. Al Teneiji immediately jumped on him and tried to grab him from behind. However, the criminal shot him in the head; Sergeant Ghanim Saed Ali Ghanim who was killed in a helicopter crash while conducting a rescue drill; Corporal Salim Suhail Khamis who was shot dead on November 30, 1971 by two unknown persons while he was on the night shift duty; Police firefighter Rashid Ahmed Saif Hilal Al Naqbi who died on May 17, 1982 in a helicopter training rescue operation; and police powerboat driver Abdullah Ibrahim Kaseen Ali who was shot dead in an exchange of fire between coast guards and weapons smugglers in UAE territorial waters.
