Emirates Zoo Park renewed its call to the society to support environmental efforts in its message sent today on the occasion of the World Oceans Day, which is celebrated on June 8 of every year.

Major General Nasser Lakhrebani Al Nuaimi, Secretary General of the Office of H.H Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Interior, and owner of the Emirates Zoo Park in Abu Dhabi, urged families, parents and educators to promote the concept of protecting and preserving the marine environment among younger generations.

Commenting on the occasion, Al Nuaimi said: “The World Oceans Day is an event that celebrates promoting awareness efforts to protect marine environment through the role played by UAE nationals and residents families, and promote their efforts to spread awareness amongst their children. The event also stresses the importance of preserving the marine environment in a sustainable manner for current and future generations.”

Al Nuaimi affirmed that the message of the Emirates Zoo is to increase the awareness of young generations on the importance of preserving oceans, by not turning them into dumps for hazardous materials which endanger environmental life, hence resulting in negative impacts and disrupting the natural eco-system balance.

He added: “The World Oceans Day officially recognized by the UN General Assembly since 2009 allows us the chance to reconsider the importance of oceans in achieving a sustainable development for mankind. This day also sends a clear message to remind us of the significant several challenges related to oceans.”

He added: “We believe that oceans are the lungs of our planet which provides us with the necessary oxygen for our existence. They are also a valuable source for nutrition and medicines, and a major component of the eco-system we live in. Therefore, we decided to add a water park to the Emirates Zoo under the name Oceans Park, which was opened for visitors last year 2011, in conjunction with the World Oceans Day. The park, which includes a large number of fish and other marine species that live in the ocean, is the largest in Abu Dhabi.”

Notably, the Emirates Zoo Park is located in Al Bahia city a north-eastern suburb of Abu Dhabi. It is 45 minutes by car from Dubai, and a 30 minutes drive from Abu Dhabi city center, making it an ideal destination for families making a weekend trip, or a stop-off point between the two cities, to enjoy the unique educational and entertaining experiences it offers for them and their children.
