H.E Major General Mohammed Khalfan Matar Al Rumaithi, Deputy Commander-in-Chief of Abu Dhabi Police, honored the winning departments of the Excellence Shield, in addition to the entities that contributed to the success of the 2013 sports season. He also honored the liaison officers who played a leading role in their departments and teams’ participation; as well as the top achievers and champions from the Abu Dhabi Police General Headquarters.

The honoring ceremony was organized by the Sports Activity Section at the Strategy and Performance Development Department, to recognize the distinguished staff members in the previous sports season. The ceremony, which was held at the Forensic Evidence Department’s auditorium on  Sunday, was attended by Major General Khalil Dawood Badran, Director General of Finance and Services at Abu Dhabi Police; Major General Mohammed bin Al Awadhi Al Menhali, Director General of Police Operations at Abu Dhabi Police; Major General Ahmed Nasser Al Raisi, Director General of Central Operations; Brigadier General Dr. Saif Bu Dhufaira Al Ameri, Director General of Security and Ports Affairs; and a number of officers and honorees.

Major General Rumaithi congratulated the honorees and praised the unlimited support provide by the higher leadership to sport activities. He also expressed his high hopes to see the sports teams achieve further successes in the upcoming sports season. He also stressed the importance of practicing sports, being a vital component in the physical, mental and psychological preparation of police members, as it allows them to show their skills and efficient performance in carrying out the tasks assigned to them efficiently, quoting the old Roman saying: “A sound mind in a sound body.”

Accompanied by Colonel Mohammed Hamid bin Dalmouj Al Dhaheri, Strategy and Performance Development Director General, the General Secretariat of the Office of H.H Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Interior, Major General Al Rumaithi awarded the honorees with thanks and appreciation certificates and awards, as follows:
The General Directorate of Police Operations received the General Commander shield; the Government and Diplomatic Premises Protection Department received the Sports Excellence Shield; the Western Region Police Directorate was awarded the Sports Excellence Shield;  and the ICT Department won the Sports Success Shield.

Major General Al Rumaithi honored the departments that contributed to the success of this sports event; namely, the Procurement and Warehouses Department, the Medical Services Department, the Tactical Affairs and Security Media Department, the Clubs and Sports Activities Department, and the Police Schools Department.

Major General Al Rumaithi also honored the Abu Dhabi Educational Council, the Abu Dhabi Sailing and Yacht Club, and Abu Dhabi Corniche Beach Department, in appreciation of their efforts, which contributed to the success of the Abu Dhabi Police sports activities season.

The honoring also included the Excellent Executive Abdullah Al Hammadi from the General Directorate of Police Operations. Major General Al Rumaithi also honored the departments that participated in the sports event and contributed to its  success; namely, the Operations Department, the Emergency and Public Safety Department, the Vehicles and Drivers Licensing Department, the Disaster and Crisis Management Department, the Special Tasks Department, the Forensic Evidence Department, the Department of Community Police, the Transport and Workshops Department, the Strategy and Performance Development, the Ports and Airports Security Department, the Traffic and Patrols Directorate at Abu Dhabi Police, the Capital Police Directorate, the Al Ain Police Directorate, and the Peripheral Regions Police Directorate.

Furthermore, Major General Al Rumaithi honored the liaison officers who played a leading role in their departments and teams’ participation. They were as follows: Colonel Anwar Al Mulla, Chairman of the Sports Committee at Abu Dhabi Police Directorate General of Central Operations; Colonel Mohammed Al Zaabi; Major Faisal Al Kuthairi; Major Abdullah Al Hamidi; Major Mohammed Al Khouri, Chairman of the Sports Committee at the General Directorate of Police Operations Department; Major Atiq Al Qubaisi; Major Nasser Al Saadi; Captain Yusuf Al Ali; Captain Yaqoub Yusuf Al Hammadi; First Lieutenant Abdullah Al Buraiki; First Lieutenant Saeed Sulaiman Al Hammadi; Lieutenant Ahmad Al Jasmi; Lieutenant Eid Al Shamesi; First Warrant Officer Mohammed Rashid; First Warrant Officer Abdullah Al Hashemi; Warrant Officer Hamed Al Zaabi; First Warrant Officer Juma’a Ali Al Hamadi; First Warrant Officer Ahmad Al Hosani; First Warrant Officer Sultan Ahmad Al Hamadi; Warrant Officer Saleh Ismail; Corporal Salim Al Ka’bi; and administrative officer Al Amin Abdullah Yaqoub.

The honoring also included the top achieving teams, namely;

1-    The Shooting Teams: Head of Teams, Colonel Waleed Al Shamesi, Director of Police Schools Department; the Clay Pigeon Shooting Team that ranked first; the Male Pistol Shooting Team that ranked first; the Female Pistol Shooting Teams that ranked first; the Shooting in Motion Team that came in first place; the Officers Pistol Team that came in second place; and the Targets Rifle Shooting that ranked first.

2-    The Tug of war team that ranked first rank in the Police Sports Federation Championships for the fourth consecutive year, and in all community and local championships in the 2013 sports season.

3-    The Iron Man Team that came in third place;

4-    The Volleyball team that came in third place;

5-    The Swimming Team that ranked first;

6-    The Pentathlon Team that ranked third;

7-    The Athletics Team that came in second place;

8-    The Snooker Team that won several championships;

9-    The Road Race Team that ranked third.
