The Ministry of Interior, represented by the Medical Services Department at Abu Dhabi Police, recently organized a number of activities as a part of the awareness initiative to fight breast cancer and chronic diseases. The activities, organized in cooperation with the Security Media Department at the General Secretariat of the Office of H.H Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Interior and in coordination with various police departments, aim to encourage MoI staff members and their families to conduct regular medical checkups.

Colonel Jassem Al Tunaiji, Head of the Medical Services Department at Abu Dhabi Police, said that the initiative, which will continue until May, includes awareness about chronic diseases and cancer for MoI staff members and their families and stresses the importance of early detection through regular medical check-ups. He stressed the importance of preventive tests and screenings to detect diseases in their earliest stages; determine the most appropriate an effective treatment to prevent any complications. “Improving and providing medical care for staff members and their families is one of the key priorities for the police leadership, which is keen to apply the most advanced standards of medical and healthcare,” he said.

He also noted that the Medical Services Department at Abu Dhabi Police dedicates significant attention to the health of its staff members, their families and community members in general. “To this end, the department strives to organize awareness and education campaigns throughout the year, and to participate in various medical events, including joining world countries to raise awareness of chronic diseases and cancer, through introductory and preventive campaigns regarding these diseases,” he said.

For her part, Lt. Colonel Dr. Najla Asaad Taher, Head of the Initiative of Early Detection of Chronic Diseases and Cancer, said: “This initiative has been launched in close coordination and cooperation with the Health Authority- Abu Dhabi, the Ministry of Health, and the coordinating committees for medical services at the countrywide level for the benefit of the MoI staff members, their families, and the largest segment of society. The Medical Services Department offers a package of therapeutic services for MoI staff members and their families; in line with the strategy of the MoI to provide excellent medical care for its staff members, with a view to strengthening the country’s efforts in the medical sector, in pursuance of its commitment to implement medical education and improve the quality of health services”.

“The Medical Services Department has introduced the best equipment and devices to allow doctors to diagnose the different health problems and prescribe the proper treatment, in addition to boosting the competency of its medical staff, by enrolling them in programs, training courses and international and local medical conferences,” she continued.

It is worth mentioning that the Medical Services Department of Abu Dhabi Police, represented by the Health Education Branch, had recently organized a a one-week comprehensive awareness campaign to spread Lung Cancer and Asthma Awareness. The initiative aims to shed the light on causes and symptoms of these diseases and prevention methods. The initiative targeted the Ministry of Interior’s staff members and included the Directorate General of Residency and Foreigners Affairs Headquarters in Abu Dhabi where medical checkups were carried out for the department members and customers. It also included the Abu Dhabi Police GHQ; the Naturalization, Residency and Ports Sector’s staff members; the Criminal Investigation Department; the Medical Services Department; and the Vehicles Licensing Department at Abu Dhabi Police. The awareness week activities concluded at the Bawabat Al Sharq Mall.
