The General Directorate of Residency and Foreigners Affairs in Abu Dhabi launched an initiative to raise awareness on the importance of official documents and ways to preserve and protect the validity of such documents. The initiative, which runs under the slogan ‘We Remind You for your Convenience’, stems from the general directorate’s continuous, and keen efforts to communicate with the society.

This initiative falls under the strategic goals of the Naturalization, Residency and Ports Sector to provide distinguished, high-quality services to customers, both citizens and residents.

Colonel Salim Ali Al Qattam Al Zaabi, Director General of Residency and Foreigners Affairs in Abu Dhabi, said: “This initiative aims to educate citizens and residents on the importance of official documents, such as passports and identity cards, as they represent important security documents. Holders of such documents are responsible for protecting them against damage, loss or theft. Official documents must not be used by another person, held in pledge or used for unintended purpose.”

“Passports and residencies should be valid and renewed them regularly. Having sufficient time before expiry dates makes it easier to travel and avoid any inconsistency with international regulations, as well as to avoid any pressure during summer time that witnesses increased renewal applications.” Colonel Al Zaabi explained.

Colonel Al Zaabi added: “Preserving and maintaining validity of official documents reflect national sense and bring benefit to all customers; citizens and residents, along with any persons they sponsor. Holders of official documents are held accountable in case of any loss and damage. Official documents issued by UAE government to its citizens and residents are highly important and holders of these documents should make their utmost efforts to preserve them.”

Colonel Al Zaabi continued: “The initiative was carried out across several media outlets, social media, and the website of the general directorate. Brochures and leaflets were also printed, providing guidelines on the way to preserve official documents and highlighting their importance. Customers of service centers will receive the printed materials pertaining to the initiative.”
