Abu Dhabi Police steps up Traffic awareness campaign
Month long campaign coincides with the back to school campaign
 
The General Headquarters of Abu Dhabi Police in cooperation with other organizations have stepped up the traffic awareness campaign with verity of programs to be implemented in a month long traffic safety campaign commenced along with  the back to school campaign.
 
A press conference was held to announce the campaign programs at the public relations and mass media administration department. The press was briefed by Colonel Gaith Al Zaabi, the director of traffic and patrols department. Among others present at the meeting were Lt.Colonal Khaleed Al Naqubi, of the Police operations department, Lt.Colonel Waleed Al Ali, director in charge of the department of Public relations and Mass Media administration, Major Jamal Al Amri, director of public relations at the traffic and patrols department and Hyder Saleh Al Masaabi, manager of public relations ADMA and other media persons. Dr. Jihad Sebeta General Manager of the emirates driving school also briefed the media persons about the programs being implemented.
 
Colonel Zabbi gave the details of the on going programs and other planned programs to be implemented to raise the traffic safety awareness among the public, especially school children, teachers, parents and the bus drivers. Letters will be send to the students ,teachers ,drivers and SMS also will be send to alert the people regarding safety needs. He said. Special programs will also be organized in venues like Abu Dhabi Mall, Marina mall, Carrefour, Action zone and Air port road.
 
There will be special patrols under the supervision of 20 officers and a team of 124 police men and 64 patrol cars will be involved in the stepped up patrolling ,he added.
 
 The traffic department has set many guidelines for assuring the safety of school children. During the campaign literature and other educative materials will be distributed to the children, parents, and drivers and to the general public. Gifts also will be distributed to the children along with campaign materials. He added.
 
There will be restriction for heavy loaded vehicles from plying on the main streets from 6am to 3pm he said. The traffic department will step up the patrolling to monitor any violations, he added.
 
Colonel Za’abi called upon the people to cooperate with the police personnel’s in assuring an accident free year by strictly adhering to the traffic regulations. He also called upon the media to play a constructive role in creating the safety awareness among the masses during the month long campaign period.
