The Directorate General of Residency and Foreigners Affairs in Abu Dhabi celebrated the World Arabic Language Day.

Colonel Salim Ali Al Qattam Al Zaabi, Director General of Residency and Foreigners Affairs in Abu Dhabi, stressed that the Arabic language has been absorbed into all civilizations, and being the language of the Quran, it has become a universal language. “The UAE and its higher leadership dedicate considerable attention to protect and maintain the Arabic language, which is closely connected to our cultural roots, and to promote and appreciate its position,” he added.

Colonel Al Zaabi made these comments during the ceremony organized by the Directorate General of Residency and Foreigners Affairs in Abu Dhabi to mark the World Arabic Language Day (WALD). The ceremony was held in cooperation with the Society for the Protection of Arabic Language in Sharjah under the slogan “My Language, My Pride”, and took place at the Emirates Institute for Naturalization, Residency and Ports.

Colonel Al Zaabi lauded the efforts of the team in charge of organizing the event, which was attended by Colonel Yusuf Khouri, Deputy Director General, along with heads of departments, chiefs of sections and staff members.

For his part, Dr. Akram Jamil Konbos, Member of the Society for the Protection of Arabic Language, delivered a lecture on the importance of the Arabic language and its prestigious stature. “It is our solemn duty to promote our language because it is a key factor that is integrally linked to our national identity,” he said, praising the UAE initiatives to maintain the Arabic language.

The lecturer also recited two poems; a first one singing the praises of the Arabic language and a second one titled “The Union, Zayed’s Legacy”. Furthermore, Lt. Colonel Mohammed Sultan Al Dhaheri, Deputy Director of the Naturalization and Residency Department in Al Ain, and Captain Abdullah Al Saghir Al Affari from the Directorate General of Residency and Foreigners Affairs in Abu Dhabi each recited a poem.

Towards the end of the ceremony, Colonel Al Zaabi, accompanied by Colonel Khouri, honored the Society for the Protection of Arabic Language in Sharjah, as well as the lecturer, staff members with literary talents at the Directorate General of Residency and Foreigners Affairs in Abu Dhabi, along with the winners of the cultural contest and the contest’s organizing committee.
