The Traffic and Patrols Directorate at Abu Dhabi Police launched the Road Safety World Cup Application on smartphones. The initiative is in pursuance of the directorate’s plan aimed at investing the latest technology means to serve its vision and strategy to achieve the Abu Dhabi Vision of zero road deaths by 2030.

Brigadier Eng. Hussein Ahmed Al Harithi, Director of Traffic and Patrols Directorate at Abu Dhabi Police GHQ, noted that the application is an innovative solution to attract more people and raise their awareness about the importance of road safety in daily life, as well as to highlight the need to adhere to traffic rules. 

Furthermore, Brigadier Al Harithi indicated that the application coincides with the FIFA World Cup 2014. Fans of all age groups are invited to join one of the 32 participating teams. “Registration will continue until June 11th through social networking sites dedicated to the ‘Together’ campaign to reduce traffic accidents on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram,” explained Brigadier Al Harithi.

“The team names are inspired by traffic safety topics. The teams will compete by posting the highest number of tweets and awareness messages within 90-minute matches and according to the relevant hashtag designated for each team,” added Brigadier Al Harithi.

Director of Traffic and Patrols Directorate indicated that the teams that will post the highest number of tweets will qualify to the round of sixteen, quarter-finals, semi-finals, right down to the finals. The winner will be crowned Road Safety World Cup Champion and will receive AED 45,000 prize money.
