Abu Dhabi Police launched eight awareness programs to disseminate the culture of prevention and establish the concept of shared responsibility within the awareness program for the current year 2016. The program is implemented by the Community Police Department under the slogan "the optimal use of social media," with the aim to educate young people and guide them to leverage the World Wide Web.
According to Major Yusuf Faraj Al Hassan, Acting Deputy Director of Community Police Department, “The annual plan for community outreach includes programs aiming to deploy comprehensive outreach. The plan takes into account the diverse use of all the means that provide a message of awareness that is appropriate with the occasion or the problem to be dealt with. The plan uses various outreach methods, with a general goal of promoting and strengthening the security and community culture of the individual towards himself, his family and his community.” Major Al Hassan added that the Outreach Section was keen to include internal and external partners in the plan.
He explained that the internal partners provide significant support in the implementation of the annual plan’s programs, such as the Security Media Department and the Criminal Investigation Department, as well as Community Police stations deployed in Abu Dhabi, the Western Region and Al Ain. He also pointed out the participation of a number of external partners within the awareness programs such as the Abu Dhabi Education Council, the Ministry of Labor and local councils, institutions and other public and private sectors.
Major Saif Ali Al Jaberi, Chief of the Social Relations and Guidance Section at the Community Police Department, said that the section is involved in an awareness field effort by organizing lectures consistent with the overall mission of the annual awareness plan, to achieve an efficient and wider spread of the awareness message.
He pointed out that the annual outreach plan includes eight titles representing the plan’saxes throughout the year; most notably the exploitation of leisure, which targets school students and their parents; begging, which is problematic during some events such as the month of Ramadan and which targets community members; the domestic employment and the dissemination of the concept of rights and duties in this category; the good handling and behavior within the context of our religious teachings;andnational events that outreach plans exploit to instill values and morals and consolidate the concepts of belonging and loyalty.
Major Al Jaberi said that the current awareness program launched under the title "the optimal use of social media on the web" addresses most segments of the community, especially children and youth, and works to spread good ways of dealing with these means to avoid suspicious sites and pages that are harmful to our children’s behavior, health and social abilities.
“The program will continue for two months in coordination and cooperation with the Security Media Department and competent sections. Various media, social networking sites, text messages and displays will be used in some banks, as well as awareness leaflets,” he added.
